Growing into college

Welcome to Growing Into College: A Guide for Students and Families

Each year, I work with students and families at one of the most important, and often overwhelming, transitions: the journey to and through college.

What I’ve learned is that this process doesn’t happen all at once. It unfolds over time, in stages, each with its own questions, emotions, and decisions.

That’s why I created Growing Into College—a space for thoughtful guidance, practical tools, and reflection along the way.

Two Pathways, One Journey

While every student’s experience is unique, most families are navigating one of two key phases:

High School to College
For juniors, seniors, and families beginning or refining the college search and application process.
Here, you’ll find guidance on building a college list, writing essays, visiting campuses, and making informed decisions.

First-Year Experience
For students (and families) navigating the transition into college.
These posts focus on adjusting to campus life, building relationships with professors, using support systems, and developing confidence during the first year.

How to Use This Blog

All posts are organized by category, so you can easily find what’s most relevant to you right now.

  • If you’re just starting the college search → begin with High School to College

  • If you’re preparing for or in your first year → explore First-Year Experience

You may also find it helpful to read across both—because understanding what comes next often helps clarify decisions you’re making now.

A Thoughtful Approach to a Meaningful Transition

This process is not just about getting into college. It’s about finding the right fit, preparing for change, and building the skills and confidence to thrive.

Throughout this blog, I’ll share seasonal guidance, practical tools, and reflections to support both students and families along the way.
